Leamlara Hall Hosting Coffee Morning and Book Sale in Aid of Renovation Fund

By Alan Sheehan

Leamlara Hall will host a coffee morning and book sale next week on Friday, 6 October to fundraiser for renovations.
The coffee morning and book sale will begin at 9.15am and run until 12pm. The proceeds from the event will go towards the renovations of Leamlara community hall.
There will also be a kid’s corner at the event, which will offer complimentary tea, coffee and cakes as well as selling home baking and books.
“We are raising money to renovate the hall,” said Linda O’Brien, member of the Leamlara Hall Committee and one of the organisers of the event. “It is in desperate need of renovation. We will have to do it in stages, there is so much work. The first stage will be redoing the floor. We applied for funding from LEADER and that would cover most of the costs, but we still need so much money in the bank.”
LEADER, set up in 1991, aims to provide rural communities across the European Union with the resources to actively direct the local development of their area. The grant can cover up to 75% of the costs, estimated to be around €25,000, leaving the Leamlara Hall Committee to fundraiser more than €6,000.
“The hall is used by both sides of the community, both Leamlara and Lisgoold,” said Ms O’Brien. “It is not as used as much as it could be, but that is because there is so much work to be done to it. It has been here for years. My father-in-law went to school there. It is close to people’s hearts and we don’t want to see it go to wreck and ruin. We have a lot of professionals on the committee and we want to make it happen.”
The Leamlara Hall Committee will gratefully accept any donations of unwanted books in good condition and home baking for the fundraiser. Books can be dropped into the Montessori in Leamlara prior to the event, while home baking can be brought to the hall on the morning of the event.
