Midleton Ballinacurra and Area Heritage Group Seek Items to Stage Pop-Up Museum

1A Pop-Up Museum to celebrate Heritage Week will be hosted by the Midleton Ballinacurra and Area Heritage Group later this month, and the community is invited to get involved.
The event will be run on two separate Sundays over Heritage Week in Midleton Library on 18 and 25 August between 2pm and 6pm.

Families are invited to share their personal stories and memorabilia with the community, including news articles, audio visual recordings or military uniforms.
The project is also looking for ephemera such as programmes for events, school copy books, and text books of old.

The Committee is particularly interested in old photographs, stories, information, memorabilia and relics relating to religion.
These can include items pertaining to veterans who served in the Armed Forces during the First and Second World Wars. Chairman, Tony Harpur says “the occasion presents a unique opportunity for the public to showcase artefacts that are in reasonable condition, and who may not otherwise get an opportunity to show them.

“Everything from WWI medals back to your Great Aunt’s priceless Ming China vase will be accepted! We will also accept agricultural items, but not your Great, Great Grand Daddy’s horse drawn plough, because we just don’t have the room for it” said Mr Harpur.
All items will be photographed and subsequently made available to future generations.

Entries can be submitted in person to Tony Harpur at the Midleton Tourist Office on any Monday and Friday, or to Head Librarian Anne-Marie Kenneally, during normal office hours.
