Midleton Educate Together National School is launching a Helping Hands campaign to fundraise for equipping its new school premises.
Midleton Educate Together National School recently moved from it’s old premises based at Market Green to its new building situated in Broomfield West, Mill Road. The new premises, which finished construction this summer, is not yet fully equipped for its students and the school must raise €60,000 to purchase essential equipment.
“While we have a fantastic new school, unfortunately it does not come fully fitted out,” said Rhodri Mears, Principal. “The Government provides us with a ‘shell’ essentially. We are launching this fundraiser to buy essential equipment such as a school stage and chairs for the new hall, computer and science equipment, gym equipment, resources to improve numeracy and literacy skills. Our goal is to raise €60,000 to purchase this equipment. We got off to a fantastic start last June with a sponsored walk which raised over €11,000; we have a ‘Helping hands’ commitment from the parents in the school for another €10,000 but we need to appeal to the wider community for the balance.”
The Helping Hands campaign will be involve the selling of wooden hands to the wider Midleton community and businesses for €50, with a range of options available to individuals businesses wishing to donate more to the school. These hands can then be decorated at the school’s upcoming winter fair in December with the hands to later form part of an art instillation at the school.
“The idea of a Helping Hands fundraiser was taken from the Educate Together logo which is a pattern of hands,” said Principal Mears. “The goal is that each person, family or business purchases a wooden hand – a ‘helping hand’ for the school. These will then be decorated and mounted in the school as part of an art installation. Individual or business names or company logos can be added to the hands, so we know who our generous sponsors are.”
