Midleton Football Club Looking for Volunteers Prior To New Season

By Alan Sheehan

Midleton Football Club is looking for people in the community to become involved with the club and help out during its volunteer week, which runs from this Sunday, 1 October until next Sunday, 8 October.
The volunteer week is an effort by Midleton FC to attract more volunteers to help out across a variety of roles beginning in time for this season.
“The volunteer week starts Sunday and runs for seven days,” said Mick Kirby, Chairman of Midleton FC. “That is when we will be making a big effort with recruiting volunteers, asking people to come on board. We want people to say ‘that is the week I should get involved’. It is an open invitation for people to get involved. We have the AGM the following week and we would like to put together the new volunteers for the start of the season so they can work with us for the season ahead.”
The club has open roles in fundraising, communication, secretarial work, administration, photography, selling lotto tickets, website administration, coaching and more.
“We are looking for people with an interest in the club, said Mr Kirby. “Maybe they have a child playing, or maybe not and they would just like a hobby or they have a talent. If not and they just want to help out, we will provide training.”
Midleton FC has grown exponentially in the last few years, Mr Kirby said, which necessitates such an influx of volunteers.
“A number of positions have come up as the club has been expanding the last number of years,” said Mick Kirby, Chairman of Midleton FC. “Our academy has 260 playing members [aged] between five years and ten years. We have 21 teams outside that catering for schoolboys and girls of all ages, senior teams of adult men and women and we are expanding our Football For All, which is for kids with special needs.”
There are already close to 100 volunteers at the club, but it is hoped that Midleton FC can continue expanding and surpassing its successes each year.
“We already have a huge amount of voluntary people with around 80 people helping out,” said Mr Kirby, “but there is a need for us to expand our structure and we need more volunteers to play a part in developing the club for years ahead. We want to keep expanding and we need volunteers to continuing making us great. We want to be a club for Midleton and East Cork to be proud of.”
