The team at Oxygen Hair Design in Midleton have once again made it through the semi-final of the L’Oréal Colour Trophy Awards 2019 which took place in Dublin’s RDS on 24 March. Having celebrated 10 years in business last year Proprietor Alwyn Rea and her team of staff, now extended to 11 including 2 in-house make artists, continue to move onwards and upwards!
Now in its 54th year, The L’Oréal Colour Trophy is the longest running live hairdressing competition in Ireland and the UK. The grand final will take place in Dublin on 27 May, where Oxygen Hair Salon will compete alongside nineteen other of the Nation’s best hair salons to completely change the entire look of their model’s colour, clothing and style from the semi-final. Their place in the final is as a result of months of hard work, determination and team effort that has been at the core of their preparation. The dedicated competition team is made up of hair stylist Alywn Rea, make-up artist Za McCarthy, stylist Sarah Corcoran and their model Iasma Kalnaja.
Speaking with The East Cork Journal, Alwyn said, “The semi-final competition involved
creating a truly inspirational, contemporary colour, complemented by trend-driven styling and finish. We enjoyed every minute of all the long hours, and it was well worth it given the result which we achieved. We’re absolutely thrilled and grateful to have made it through.” Judges from amongst the very best in the business selected Oxygen Hair Design’s efforts as completely fitting the high standards of “exceptionally executed and perfectly precise work” they were looking for. The top prize in the final is a 2 day European trip to shoot the winning look, as well as PR and press opportunities throughout the year.
There will be no slowing down to rest once the competition is over, however, as Oxygen Hair Salon has big plans and a capable staff to see them come to fruition. In October 2019, the business is expanding to accommodate a training academy in the upper floors above the salon on Midleton’s Main St. Alywyn said, “We will be offering various up skilling hairdressing courses and also a VIP Bridal Suite, which will be a private space for brides to have their hair and make done on their special day”.
All at The East Cork Journal wish the very best of luck to the team in the final, and in their future business plans.
