Midleton Library hosted a special retirement presentation for outgoing Librarian Ann Smithwick last Wednesday, 21 June.
Much loved librarian, Ann Smithwick retired from Midleton Library last Wednesday after 18 years of service. Ann was presented with a beautiful bronze piece on behalf of Tim Lucey, Chief Executive of Cork County Council. She was also presented with flowers and gifts from her colleagues, who are sorry to lose such a valued member of staff. During her time at Midleton library, there were three separate refurbishments of the library and multiple changes of staff. Ann welcomed every new member of staff and shared her knowledge with generosity and patience.
Ann's retirement party at the library was organised by her colleagues and was attended by library management from Midleton and Cork County Libraries, Ann’s family and good friends.
Midleton Library was represented by Anne-Marie Kenneally, Emer Kelleher Ann Lamb as well as former staff members Fidelma Barrett and Ann Walley, while Cork County Library was represented by Joe Higgins, Marie Walsh and Eileen O’Brien. Ann’s husband Dick Smithwick and their daughters Mary and Catherine were present for ceremony and speeches.
During farewell speeches the Eileen O'Brien, Acting County Librarian, joked that Ann's personal record was so good, she couldn't get a single anecdote from it! Ann will be missed by customers and colleagues alike who all hope she enjoys a long, happy and healthy retirement.
