The first ever 5k Fun Run and Walk organised by Midleton Rugby Club is set for this Sunday, 29 October.
Registration for the fun run and walk will take place at Midleton Rugby Club from 10am, with the event open to people of all ages and abilities. The registration fee will be €10 for runners and €5 for walkers, with Under-16s permitted to take part free of charge. The proceeds raised will go towards the general running costs of Midleton Rugby Club.
The route will begin and end at Midleton Rugby Club’s home ground Towns Park. Runners will set off at 11am with walkers departing shortly afterwards at 11.10am.
As it takes place during the Halloween weekend, fancy dress is encouraged. While it’s not mandatory, there will be a prize on the day for the best dressed along with a host of other prizes for the overall winners and the first past the line in various age categories.
The route begins with a lap of the pitches at the Rugby Club before departing towards and through Broomfield, down past Avencore and towards the Mill Road. The route will pass the GAA club and railway station, taking the participants behind Hurley’s Supervalu and down Drury’s Avenue where a left turn at Connolly Street will bring everyone back to the Rugby Club where the run will finish with another lap of the pitches.
“We would like to thank everyone who helped out with the event so far,” said David O’Sullivan, Public Relations Officer for Midleton RFC. “We would like to thank Danny McCarthy for his advice in helping set it up. He is a great help in fairness. We hope it will be a great day. It will be fun for the whole family and we hope to see you all there.”
The day before the fun run and walk, Saturday 28 October, Midleton host Thomond in the AIL Ulster Bank League with the match kicking off at 2.30pm.
