Midleton Rugby Club is hosting its first ever 5k Fun Run and Walk this Halloween, scheduled for Sunday, 29 October.
Registration for the fun run and walk will take place at Midleton Rugby Club from 10am. The event itself commences at 11am when the runners set off, followed by the walkers shortly afterwards at 11.10am.
The entrance fee for runners is set at €10 and at €5 for walkers, with no charge for Under-16s taking part. The proceeds raised on the day will go towards the running of Midleton Rugby Club.
“The fun run will be fundraising for the club,” said David O’Sullivan, Public Relations Officer for Midleton RFC. “It will go towards the general day-to-day running of the club, and we have a couple of projects coming down the line that we need fundraising for. We don’t have sponsorship for the run yet so any sponsorship would be greatly appreciated by the club.”
As it coincides with the Halloween weekend, fancy dress is encouraged though not mandatory. There will be prizes on offer on the day for the overall winners, age categories and best dressed. All abilities and ages are welcome, with mini-runs being planned for the younger children present.
The event is organised in conjunction with Midleton Athletic Club and its member Danny McCarthy.
The route begins with a lap of the pitches at the Rugby Club before departing towards and through Broomfield, down past Avencore and towards the Mill Road. The route will pass the GAA club and railway station, taking the participants behind Hurley’s Supervalu and down Drury’s Avenue where a left turn at Connolly Street will being everyone back to the Rugby Club where the run will finish with another lap of the pitches.
Those wishing to sponsor the race can contact Mr David O’Sullivan by email at midletonrfcpro@gmail.com or phone at 087 099 4144.
