Midleton Spinathon for Cork ARC Cancer Support House Takes Place This Saturday

By Alan Sheehan

Midleton hosts a nine-hour spinathon in aid of Cork ARC Cancer Support House this weekend on Saturday, 22 July.
The spinathon will run from 9am-6pm outside the East Cork Journal office and Midleton Credit Union, both on Main Street, Midleton, with three stationary bicycles placed outside each building. Each bike will be manned simultaneously, with all six participants active for at least an hour each before switching off to another volunteer. Donations can be made on the day, with the proceeds raising going towards Cork ARC Cancer Support House’s recently opened premises in Youghal.
“The spinathon will run from 9am-6pm and anyone who would like to help out on the day, either collecting money or to spin for an hour, are more than welcome,” said Ciara McCann from Cork ARC. “We hope to have some special guests on the day such as the Cork Rose [Aisling O’Connor] and The Queen of the Sea [Alex Butler] pop down for an hour. We are still looking for volunteers, so if anyone would like to spin or collect money for ARC Cancer Support House there is no problem whatsoever if they come along on the day to help out.”
Those interested in getting involved only need to show up and cycle for an hour; funds will be raised through collections during the day rather than through sponsorship cards for the cyclists.
The proceeds from the day will go towards the general running costs of Cork ARC Cancer Support House, which was set up in 2001 to provide emotional support and practical help to people with cancer and their families. Recently a new support centre opened at Friar Street, Youghal.
Anyone interested in volunteering for the spinathon can contact the organisers through Facebook at Cork ARC Cancer Support House Supporting East Cork & West Waterford, or contact Ms Ciara Crann at 087 054 1311.
