Last weekend saw clubs from all over Ireland travelling to England to compete in the UK ITF Taekwon-Do Championships. With more than fifty Irish fighters taking part in the event, the Midleton Taek-won-Do Club sent over three of their best to join the Irish squad and the Midleton fighters won an incredible five medals, including two gold.
The first of the Midleton medal winners was Keith O’Sullivan, who fought in the Adult Green Belt division and brought home a silver medal for Ireland. Keith has been fighting in every tournament he can find over the past two years, getting better and better with each competition, and he is delighted to win his first international medal.
Second up was Jordan O’Polo, who fought in the U12s Blue Belt division and won a silver medal, as well as also winning a bronze in the U12s patterns. At ten years old, Jordan is already a top level fighter, having won gold in all of his local and national competitions last year.
Last up we had the Midleton TaekwonDo Club’s instructor, Mr James Dwyer, who finished off the club’s success by winning gold in Senior 6th Dan Patterns and gold in Senior Middle Weight Black Belt Sparring. Mr Dwyer, the former ITF Adult Middle Weight World Champion from Korea 2010 and current ITF Senior Heavy Weight World Champion from Argentina 2018, is very proud of his club’s success and hopes to continue their winning ways in the upcoming ITF European Championships which are being held in Cork later this year.
