The quest by Midleton Men’s shed to find a permanent home could be at an end.
This week Cork County Council said it would consider leasing a vacant building in the grounds of Aras Cuimhne an Piarsaigh.
It’s expected the offer of a property will be before the June sitting of the borough for formal approval.
The news comes following the tabling of a motion by Fine Gael Councillor Susan McCarthy.
The Midleton based Cllr told the May sitting of the East Cork Municipality the leasing of a vacant property on the grounds of the Midleton Municipal building would greatly benefit community groups like the Midleton Men’s shed.
Earlier this year the local authority said it would look favourably at leasing vacant units where appropriate.
Independent Councillor Noel Collins who seconded Cllr McCarthy’s motion said he had been advocating on behalf of the East Cork group but had not made any headway on providing a unit to date.
