John O'Connell.

It has been revealed that John O’ Connell will be the Grand Marshall for the 2018 Lisgoold / Leamlara St Patrick’s Day Parade.
John runs the ‘Mouth of the South’ blog, where he covers topics such as lifestyle, food and clothes. He is a big supporter of local businesses and charities. Looking ahead to St Patrick’s Day, the Bartlemy native told the East Cork Journal that he is delighted to take up the role as Grand Marshal for the March 17th parade.
‘‘It’s a great honour. There’s a great community spirit there. I have family there in Lisgoold going back to the 1700’s. My role is to be an ambassador for the parade.
‘‘This is the fourth year of the Lisgoold parade. Organisers pick somebody different every year to be Grand Marshal. The first year, it was the oldest people in the parish (who were selected) – Dan Joe McCarthy and Kathleen O’ Connell. Dan Joe has sadly passed away since. Pakie O’ Keeffe, who would have helped out all of the community groups over the years, and provided the sound, has recently passed away. I’d like to extend my sympathies.
‘‘There’s huge community involvement in the parade. There are all the different groups from the GAA, there are senior citizens involved, the Youth Club get involved as do the schools and Midleton Fire Brigade send up an engine or two. There’s usually entertainment in the hall as well. A lot of people come up from Midleton, Bartlemy and Carrigtwohill. They are great supporters,’’ John said.
Mouth Of The South took the prize for Micro Blogger of the Year, at the 2017 New Yorker Hi Style Awards, which took place at the Clayton Hotel Silver Springs in Cork, at the end of last year. The blog, co-ordinated by John, continues to attract new followers.
‘‘The blog is going great. It’s going from strength to strength. I’m doing it part-time, though I’d love to be doing it full-time. If I had the time to do it full-time, it would be great. It keeps people up to date on what’s going on.’’
