Labour Party Local Election Candidate for Midleton/Cork East Eric Nolan has highlighted a dangerous bridge in Garryvoe. Eric said ‘While canvassing in Garryvoe on Tuesday a number of residents raised concerns about the bridge entering Garryvoe from Ladysbridge. One resident walked me down to the bridge to see exactly what condition it was in. I was taken aback to say the least. I’ve seen some amount of potholes driving around East Cork. Many secondary roads are in a disgraceful state. While a pothole can cost you a wheel, this bridge could have far more serious consequences. The road is tight and if you were to pull in to avoid oncoming traffic, you could very easily end up in the river. I have reported this to the council and hope that immediate action is taken. The consequences of inaction don’t bear thinking about.’
Local resident Gerry Tobin said he had been raising the issue for a number of years to no avail. ‘When the tide comes in there can be 8 to 10 feet of water there. It is a serious accident waiting to happen. I’ve contacted the council numerous times and I’m still awaiting a response.’
Mary Garde, who lives beside the bridge has also raised the issue numerous times. Mary said ‘I don’t want to see a serious accident here. Repairs are needed immediately’.
