This past weekend, Kerry native Declan O Hara needed to showcase all his talents as he contested the annual Mr Personality competition. Mr Personality or “Mr P” is a two day festival that takes place in Kilkenny for young men from up and down the country to celebrate their lives inside and outside of Macra na Feirme. In what proofed to be a fun filled weekend, Declan (representing the Seandun region) had to pit himself against the 29 other contestants from across the country to be named the 13th Mr Personality.

This involved a 5 minute on stage interview in front of a packed hall full of friends, loved ones and of course the judges. On the Saturday morning, the contestants were whisked away to take part in bowling competitions to further highlight their personalities. While Saturday afternoon, each contestant had to do a private interview with their interview to try and convince the judges why they should be “Mr Personality 2018”.

Of course this only made up part of the judges’ decision – they also spent some time observing the contestants throughout the weekend and how they interacted. This was helped by entertainer fondly known as “mad Patsy” who got the crowd singing and dancing throughout the competition.

Declan not one to shy away, happily danced the Siege of Ennis with his peers to the rapturous applause of his friends. There is no doubt Declan was an excellent representative of both Glanmire and the Seandun region over the weekend. Such was the stiffness of the competition, Declan unfortunately was unable to take the crown which went to Mr Laois.

After the weekend Declan gleefully expressed his “happiness in taking part and really enjoyed meeting some great characters over the last few days. Well done to Declan!
