The Youghal Heat of Paddy O’Brien’s Cork Over 60s Talents Show takes place at Brú Na Sí at 3pm Sunday 15 April. All varieties of talent will be welcome to participate, if you can sing, dance, play an instrument - why not see if you’ve got what it takes while having some fun? Admission to the heat in Youghal is just €5 and a great afternoon of uplifting entertainment is assured.
This is the 42nd year of music legend Paddy’s Talent Show. “I started it in 1977 to combat loneliness” he said, “and the show has gone from strength to strength since”. Since its beginnings, the event has raised in excess of €500,000 for the Irish Heart Foundation. The winner of Youghal’s heat and others that are taking place around Cork, will find themselves in the semi-final on 20 May in no less grand surroundings than Cork City Hall. Audience members and semi-finalists alike will be in for a real treat at the event in May as another of Ireland’s musical greats, Johnny Carroll “The Man with the Golden Trumpet” will be performing also. Johnny himself has been in the music business for over 60 years.
The final of the competition will take place on 17 June again in the City Hall. Snap up the tickets to all events as both the semi-final and final are City Hall’s two most well attended shows every year, reaching almost full capacity each time. Tickets are available for just €15 from the ProMusica shop on Oliver Plunkett Street and also from Kathleen Woulfe in Midleton
Paddy wishes to pass his heartfelt thanks to Canon David Herlihy and Micheál de Buitléir in Youghal for all their hard work in organising the heat in Youghal and also to Charlie McAlister who organised Midleton’s heat. Tune into Nationwide on 2 May to watch Paddy O’Brien talk to Mary Kennedy about the competition over the years.
