Ballymacoda Ladysbridge Community Council announces the official opening of the Ladysbridge Loop which connects Ladysbridge to Castlemartyr via a way-marked trail through Castlemartyr Woods. The formal launch of the trail takes place on Sunday, July 16th at 10:45 with the opening ceremony taking place in the village car park, Ladysbridge which is the trail head.
This is the culmination of a project 12 years in development. A dedicated trail sub-group was formed to see the project through to completion. This sub-group liaised with Cork County Council, SECAD, Coillte and the National Trails Office to bring the trail to fruition. The 4.7km trail is graded as easy, and crosses public roads, fields and forest. It is suitable for family groups including children.
The trail offers a very pleasant countryside and forest walk with beautiful scenery. Most importantly it facilitates pedestrian access into Mitchell’s Wood from Ladysbridge village thus connecting the communities of Ladysbridge and Castlemartyr while avoiding the busy road traffic on the R632. Some interesting flora and fauna are to be found along the route and otters and kingfishers have been spotted in the region of the new bridge crossing the river Womanagh.
To celebrate the launch of the trail, Ballymacoda Ladysbridge Community Council are hosting a family fun day following the official opening, including a trail teaser with a small entry fee, a Teddy Bear’s picnic, face-painting and complimentary refreshments in Ladysbridge hall.
