A great turnout of supporters for Youghal Community Bus came to their help when they ran in the Cork Mini Marathon to help raise funds for the crucial service in Youghal. Speaking with The East Cork Journal, Lesley Cullinane Godfrey said "we had a great turnout from Youghal who ran the Mini Marathon, men, women and young people, and I would just like to thank each of them for their constant and ongoing support for a cause which is very dear to the hearts of many people in the town and surrounds".
The sight of the white Community Bus is a constant in Youghal, bringing the elderly and disabled to their destinations around the town including Doctors and Dentists appointments, to the Post Office, out to Millennium Park where other services are located, to do their shopping and, indeed, it gives them the opportunity to call to friends for a chat and a cuppa.
Youghal Community Bus is a friend to a host of people. It is their freedom from loneliness, their independence and their means of getting around.
It is run by a Voluntary Group who do not receive funding of any description from any Government Agencies or State Bodies. Their only income is the voluntary contributions which they receive from the people who use their service.
Well done to all who "ran for the bus" in the Mini Marathon, and raised funds to keep it running.
Youghal Community Transport Bus service runs from Monday to Saturday. If you wish to avail of the bus service call 087 1759555.
