Following the recent Bus Éireann announcement regarding the future of their Expressway Service, the National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) have organised a Meeting in Youghal to discuss the proposed cuts to the Expressway Services for the Youghal and surrounding areas.
Speaking this week with The East Cork Journal, local Youghal man Gerry Murray told how, when he read the press release, he was shocked to discover that the Youghal Expressway was one of the routes included in the proposed cuts. "I was horrified at the thought", Gerry said, "and telephoned to get further information. Getting no help from a Bus Éireann source" he said " I then contacted the NBRU and spoke with Dermot O'Leary, General Secretary of the National Bus and Rail Workers Union who confirmed to me that a series of meetings were being organised nationally to bring awareness of the proposed cuts to those communities who are directly involved. "As the Youghal service is included in the list", Gerry said, "a meeting to Save our Bus Service has been organised for Thursday, 26 January at 8pm in The Walter Raleigh Hotel, which will be addressed by Dermot O'Leary".
It is hoped that the meeting will help raise awareness of the situation, and gain the support of the people against the proposed cuts. The organisers are hoping for a good turnout on the night. Everyone welcome.
All public representatives have been invited to attend.
