Cobh Family Resource Centre, in association with SECAD, will host two half-day CV writing and interview workshops on 24 and 31 January.
Both workshops are free to attend, with the first half-day workshop focusing on CV and cover lettering writing taking place on Tuesday, 24 January. This workshop will cover general formatting of a CV, shaping your personal CV and the important elements to include within, how to write a focused and concise cover letter, and how to match your CV and cover letter to job descriptions.
“We ran the CV and cover letter workshop last year as well,” said Stephanie Cadogan of Cobh Family Resource Centre. “For the first half of the morning we’ll be talking dos and don’ts. The second half of the morning then we’ll be on the computers, typing up CVs, updating them or starting again, and print one off at the end of the morning.”
The second half-day workshop will examine the dos and don’ts of interviews, including how to properly answer standard interview questions, and how to demonstrate your skills and experiences in your responses.
“The second morning is the interview workshop,” said Ms Cadogan, “and again we’ll go over the dos and don’ts, how to prepare for an interview, and we’ll practice them as well. This one is especially good because some might have a good CV or cover letter, but confidence is a big part of the interview experience. Interviews are nerve-wracking, and some people need little bit of experience.”
The CV workshop also ran in March of last year, with 18 people attending.
“The space here is small enough, so we can have up to about 15 or 20 people which is ideal really, as we can help people one-on-one. If there’s much more demand for it then we can run another one later on. People are welcome to one or the other. Some might be okay with their CVS but like help with the interviews, or vice versa.”
If people are unable to attend either workshop, Cobh Family Resource Centre and SECAD can provide help with both of the workshops’ subjects once an appointment is made.
“It’s good to do these as part of a group,” said Ms Cadogan, “but in case people can’t come on the day they can make an appointment with myself and we can update, start over CVs, and print one up over one or two sessions. Then there’s Margaret from SECAD too who’s here on Tuesdays, and she can met for people to help them improve CVs, Cover letter, advice on interviews, or to have a conversation about career goals or plans. You can make an appointment with her by calling SECAD’s office in Midleton.”
