Midleton Football Club will hold a fundraising bake sale next Sunday, 22 October.
The second annual Halloween Bake Sake will be hosted at Midleton FC’s clubhouse in Knockgriffin Park, Midleton from 10am-1pm and will coincide with the academy training. The proceeds raised from the morning will go towards new training equipment for the club.
“Everyone is welcome,” said Karina McCarthy, one of the organisers of the event. “You don’t have to be associated with the club to come along. It is our second year holding this. We ran it last year on Halloween weekend itself when there was no academy training on the day. Plenty still donated and plenty people still came and we still had a good turnout, but it was like people went out of their way to support us. We are running it when the academy kids train – they train every Sunday morning – as we wanted to hold it when everybody is already around the club.”
Any donations of baked or store bought goods such as cakes, buns, tarts, cookies etc would be greatly appreciated by the club. Said items can be dropped in to the clubhouse from 9am on the morning of the event.
“We’d be very glad for any donations of baked goods – the more the merrier,” said Ms McCarthy. “People can drop it in to the clubhouse on the morning. I’m there myself from 9am. If people couldn’t drop it in but still wanted to donate, they could contact me and we could arrange something; I could try and collect it on the Saturday. We got some brilliant donations last year; cakes in the shape of spiders and other Halloween themed goods.”
Midleton FC is still looking to attract more volunteers to help out across a variety of roles with the club this season. The club has open roles in fundraising, communication, secretarial work, administration, photography, selling lotto tickets, website administration, coaching and more. Midleton FC has grown exponentially in the last few years and now caters for 21 teams including schoolboys, schoolgirls, senior men and senior women teams.
“We are always looking for extra hands,” said Ms McCarthy. “The club is getting so big now that it is getting even more difficult for a small group of people to keep running it when we are all working full-time as well.”
Those who wish to donate baked items but are unable to drop them in on the morning of the event can contact Ms Karina McCarthy for alternative arrangement by phone at: 086 152 0892.
