It might still feel that there is a heap of time before we need to start shopping for Christmas, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get into the festive spirit now.
Christmas is officially on the way as the date for the switching on of lights across East Cork has been revealed, with only have three weeks to wait.
Youghal, Midleton, Carrigtwohill and Cobh are planning huge Christmas Lights switch on events, complete with music, entertainment and shopping before the all-important button is pressed to light up the night sky.
A wide mix of local talents will feature at the Christmas Lights switch-on, with lots of fun in store for children and adults alike.
To celebrate the switching on of the Christmas Lights all four East Cork towns will be holding a day of celebrations, which includes guest appearances by Santa and Mrs Claus, Carol singers and a surprise celebrity. Throughout the day there will be lots happening with family entertainment.
Midleton will create a magical atmosphere on Friday 22 November when locals will be invited to join Santa as he arrives on his Christmas bus at 3:00pm bringing festive cheer.
There will be a mix of family entertainment before a very special surprise guest will switch on the lights, heralding the beginning of a magical Midleton Christmas. Throughout the town there will be music, song and dance.
Youghal will be hosting an early evening extravaganza in Market square on Saturday 23 November.
From 3:00pm you will have the opportunity to visit Santa in his Grotto, watch an array of street performers and listen to Christmas Carols performed by local children. There will be free face painting.
One lucky child will be drawn on the day from over 4,000 who entered a colouring competition, to switch on the lights with Santa at 5:00pm.
In Cobh and Carrigtwohill the official count down to Christmas will begin on Sunday 24 November.

In Cobh
Santa will take up residence in the lobby of the Commodore Hotel at 3:00pm, where children can meet and greet him. There will be free face painting also.
On the promenade a DJ will perform live on the Band Stand also from 3:00pm, with free festive hot chocolate for the children from 4:30pm onwards.
At 5:00pm a children’s torch light procession will leave the promenade playground and head along the waterfront to the Christmas tree where one lucky child will be picked to officially start the countdown to Christmas.
Carrigtwohill will shimmer and shine with festive illuminations when the switch will be thrown at 5:00pm.
The event will take place directly after the Business Expo which takes place in the Community Centre from 2:00pm, showcasing all which the area has to offer.
