To celebrate the switching on of the Christmas lights the East Cork town will be holding a day of celebration which includes a guest appearance by Santa and Mrs Claus, Carol singers and a surprise celebrity. Throughout the day there will be lots happening with family entertainment.
This year the Midleton and Area Chamber of Commerce have teamed up with Iarnród Éireann to bring Father Christmas to the market town on board the Polar Express.

“There is something for everyone. Today is about celebrating the offering we have. The incredible as what’s on offer from locally sourced foods, our tracks and walking trails and drink. We are asking everyone to come in and soak up the atmosphere and even come in festive gear.”
During the train ride Santa will meet and greet every child and adult. Then you can pop by and see the man in red at his Grotto in the Fair Green Market bringing festive cheer to one and all.
There will be a mix of family entertainment before a very special surprise guest will switch on the lights heralding the beginning of a magical Midleton Christmas. Throughout the town there will be music, song and dance. This year the Midleton and Area Chamber of Commerce are encouraging businesses to be more active in the manner they present their products and shop fronts to encourage people to shop local.
Cobh Saturday and Youghal will switch on their festive lights on Saturday 25 November.
Details of Santa’s arrival are yet to be confirmed for both locations.
