Sinn Fein Deputy Pat Buckley Reacts To Plans For New Swimming Pool in Midleton

By Seamus Whelehan

Sinn Fein Deputy Pat Buckley says looking at splashing out on a public swimming pool for Midleton is not welcome while Cork County Council and the mental health service are lacking proper investment.
The Sinn Fein spokesperson on mental health made his comments after Councillor Susan McCarthy made a splash in County Hall last week with her campaign to get Midleton Swimming.
The Fine Gael Cllr secured agreement from Cork County Council to commission an internal report on the demand for publically owned swimming pools across the county.
She said many large urban centres like Midleton were suffering from a lack of leisure facilities.
Cllr McCarthy who received the full backing of the local authority councillors for the review said there was a great demand for a publicly owned swimming pool in the area.
She said a new pool would be a welcome activity for local children, young people and their families and help improve the health of all local residents.
