Slimming World


A chance meeting with a friend in July 2015 inspired Liz Ryan to join her local Slimming World group. This friend explained she had lost her weight without being hungry, still had her treats and could also enjoy her favourite drink on a night out. With a huge amount of scepticism , Liz decided to give this slimming group a go and embarked on a journey of self-discovery , leading to an amazing weight loss of 2 stones 3lbs in just 20 weeks! “I couldn’t believe this ‘diet’ would work for me and the bonus was I reached my chosen target and am now still at my target 1 year and maintaining my weight , all thanks to Slimming World.” Unlike previous slimming methods tried, including shakes, pills and calorie counting, Liz discovered she could eat fresh and filling meals,( including burger and chips!) , not miss out on her treats which included her favoured alcoholic drinks, and all without the need to weigh or measure. Needless to say, as the scales showed a steady weight loss each week, some weeks a 3lbs weight loss was easily achieved, all without feeling hungry. “It wasn’t all plain sailing “ admits Liz. “Everyone has a bad day or even a bad week while trying to loose weight, but by following the Slimming World  food optimising plan and with the unwavering support from my fellow members I was encouraged to achieve my personal target.” None of this would have been possible without the wonderful help of her Slimming World consultant who was at the weekly class greeting all the members with a big welcoming smile. “I was very nervous that first day I joined, but I was given a new member talk and the food plan was simply but carefully explained to guide me on the most liberating and effective way to loose weight. I was to discover also that it is the easiest way to keep it off long term. By attending class every week my personal achievement target was possible and was no longer an unrealistic goal. We were all going in the same positive direction in a non-judgemental and very friendly atmosphere, where confidentiality and understanding are paramount.” Having reached her target, Liz  became a  lifetime Slimming World member, allowing her to attend a group free once she stayed within 3lbs of her personal achievement target. That was the solution to maintaining her weight loss, continuing to make healthy choices for life while still getting support from her group.

Happier than she had been in a long time, and with a new slimmer figure, Liz began to experience a new-found energy. A desire to take on new challenges lead Liz to join her local golf club and learn to play golf. “It’s a win/win situation. I get plenty exercise and also it’s a great way to meet new people. All I need now is to increase my golf handicap…. That, no doubt will  take a lot longer to achieve!!”

Confident in the knowledge that Slimming World has over 47 years experience under it’s belt and almost 1 million members, Liz was inspired to help others to achieve their weight loss dream. She is launching her Slimming World group in Midleton Park Hotel on Saturday 7th January 2017.
