Special Awards for Fantastic Flavours Artisan Ice-Cream in Youghal

by Denise FitzGerald

"It all started as a hobby" said Miceal O'Hurley, Proprietor of Fantastic Flavours Ice Cream Parlour in Youghal, when he and his wife Oksana and baby daughter, Blaithnaid met with The East Cork Journal last week. He told how he has been making his own ice-cream since 1983 and, when he moved to Youghal five years ago, he decided he was too young to retire and opened Fantastic Flavours, which is much more than a superb Artisan Ice-Cream Parlour, as the O'Hurley family have become an integral part of the friendly community in Youghal.
Miceal O'Hurley is passionate about ice-cream. "I make it by hand every day, in small batches using only the finest Irish milk and cream. I love experimenting with new flavours", he said, (he has over 42 different flavours!) and the enjoyment and pleasure of my customers is what it is really all about for me".
Fantastic Flavours Artisan ice-cream has several times been recognised throughout Ireland, having received the distinction as One of Ireland's Best Ice Cream Parlours by the Irish independent; one of Ireland's Four Great Ice Cream Parlours by Get Out/Find Out, and generous reviews from the Cork Independent food critic and others. This week, another acknowledgement of Fantastic Flavours came when Ireland's most popular food magazine, The Taste, named them as One of Ireland's 15 Best Ice Cream Parlours in their June 2017 Edition.
"We are delighted with this recognition for our Artisan Ice-Cream" said Miceal, "and we really are most thankful to our customers. Oksana and I love to see the local people who pop in most days to enjoy our ice-cream and have a chat, and also the holidaymakers who come back year after year, some of whom make it their first stop in the town".
Success and recognition is always appreciated, but perhaps the biggest success of this wonderful Ice-Cream Parlour (apart from their Artisan Ice-Cream), is the warm and genuine welcome which is always extended by the O'Hurley family.
