Successful History Pop Up at Midleton Library

By Seamus Whelehan

The ‘Past Times Past Lives’ Pop Up Museum in Midleton Library welcomed dozens of visitors over its 3 hour Heritage Week event on Sunday 18 August.

The project run by the Midleton Ballinacurra and Area Heritage Group, in association with the County Library Service, has proven so popular that the organisers are already planning a second Pop Up.

Everything, from minute books from JH Bennett’s Working Man’s Club to the Midleton Brass and Reed Band Service Medals, and novelty toys including vintage train sets and petrol engine model planes was on display.

Head Librarian and Heritage Group Secretary, Anne-Marie Kenneally, said they hope to make the instant museum an annual event.

“We are very interested to hear from the public to expand the display next year, maybe even suggesting other, bigger venues.”

“The ultimate goal would be to have a public museum in Midleton and we, as a Heritage Group, will work towards that” she said.
