On Tuesday 23 January, the inaugural Darkness Into Light Glanmire launch took place in Glanmire Community College. GCC, in conjunction with Glanmire Chamber of Commerce, hosted a very special event that saw the school community and the wider community come together to promote the work of Pieta House and Darkness Into Light (DIL). The following attended on the night: Glanmire Chamber members, staff and management of GCC, Mr Pat McKelvey from Cork ETB, local organisations, businesses and members of the Glanmire community. Also present at the launch were Angela Horgan (Funding and Advocacy) from Pieta House and the renowned Karen Underwood, Performer and Guest Speaker who shared her story.
Sadly, over the years, both the school community and the wider Glanmire community have lost loved ones to suicide. The impact cannot be put into words. Through participating in DIL, we hope to strengthen the link between our school and the wider community and most importantly, we want to stand in solidarity with all those who have been affected by suicide. DIL provides a very special opportunity to unite the school and the wider community
We urge you to spread the word about Darkness Into Light in Glanmire. Online registration will be opening soon via the pieta house website. In addition to this, we will be holding a number of community engagement weekends to provide information and opportunities to register. We look forward to seeing you all on the 12 May h as we walk in solidarity from the Darkness into the Light.
