Cobh Municipality have announced plans to tackle some of the worst roads in the borough this year.
Almost 20 of the worst cracked and crumbling roads in the Cobh / Glanmire municipal district are finally going to be repaired.
Municipality bosses also announced a major drainage programme across the district on Monday 5 February.
Works are to commence in the coming months with many roads expected to be complete by spring.
11 Roads across the region will undergo improvement works these include phase 4 of the 3606 Leamlara – Carrigtwohill road.
3619 Carrigane Road phase 4 from L76391 to L7634, 2782 Old Mallow Road phase 2, 7648 Ballynabointa Carrigtwohill, 624 IFI road phase 1, 2962 Kilcully Bridge to Kilcully Cross phase 1, 2796 Blarney road to Killard, 2989 Ticknock road, 6964 Boola Lane Whitechurch, 6965 Whitechurch Village and 2786 Sweeney’s hill Rathpeacon.
While many would welcome the improvement works to Ticknock hill, its listing comes with for work comes with a warning.
Senior Engineer Ger O’Hora said he was reluctant to resurface the road until he received a cast iron promise the roads water main has been fixed.
Last year Mr O’Hora’s team carried out works to Ticknock Hill on three occasions following a burst water main.
Mr O’Hora said “if we find that the water main hasn’t been repaired we will distribute funding for the Ticknock road to other roads in Cobh” he told the sitting.
Under the local authorities surface dressing programme 8 roads will be tarred and chipped these include the L2991 Ballydanielmore, L3618 Waterrock, L29721 Kilrussane, L6981 Ballinlegane, L2784 Coolowen, L6960 Ballyvorisheen, L6952 gragiue and L7018 Valley Road.
The municipal district is to carry out road drainage at 50 locations throughout the district.
