The Whites Cross Charity Show will be held this Sunday, 3 September and well help fundraise for Cobh Rescue Horses.
The horse and pony show will take place at the Munster Agriculture Society Show Grounds in Cork and will commence at 9.30am sharp, with the Whites Cross Charity Show set to include a speed challenge which will fundraise for Cobh Rescue Horses.
The charity event was organised by Michael Hennessy of Show jumping Ireland and will see teams of two, which will be drawn on the day, run the course with the fastest combined time winning. Each team will be comprised of a jockey and a 12.2 show jumper, with the latter tackling the speed derby of eight fences first.
This year’s list of jockeys includes: Davey Russell, Kevin Coleman, Richie Harding, Chris O’Donovan, Jody Townend, Mikey O’Connor, Gerry Curtain, Eoin O’Brien with the rest of the riders to be announced.
The first three home get a trophy each and the runners-up will receive rosettes. The event will also feature a raffle, and Clyde, the mascot of Cobh Rescue Horses, will be brought along on the day for a meet and greet.
Last year’s event was a great success, with the winning team being Team Bluegrass comprised of jockey Paddy Mangan and show jumper Sarah Fitzgerald. The rest of the previous year’s jockeys include: David Splaine, Jody Townend, Con McSweeney, Corky Carroll, Kevin Colman, Johnny Hurley, Chris O’Donovan, Stella McGrath, Richie Harding and Tom Busteed.
Cobh Rescue Horses is a small rescue centre established in 2016 which rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes equines. The group is entirely dependent on self-fundraising through a wide range of events including mad hatter races, family fun days, car boot sales and gratefully receives some income through donations. So far the group have rehomed 35 out of the 54 equines which entered its care to date and currently aims to fundraise in the coming months to take care of winter feeding and veterinary costs.
