It is just over a week until the Trivia Night fundraiser for both Kate Flynn and Breaking the Silence Cobh next Friday, 30 June.
All are welcome to the Trivia Night hosted by the Ballynoe Inn, Cobh which will begin at 8.30pm. A table of four is priced at €20 with the proceeds to be distributed to both Kate Flynn and to Breaking the Silence Cobh.
“It is €20 per table,” said Dave Campbell, organiser of the event,” so I would say to people to get there early. Last year we held a quiz for Breaking the Silence and Cobh Playground Fundraising. We tried to have 32 tables for each team in the Euro 2016, but we wound up having about 36 or 38. So based on last year’s experience it looks to fill up fairly quickly next Friday.”
The Trivia Night will be held as a tangential event to the sixth annual skydive fundraiser for Breaking the Silence, with Kate Flynn also designated as this year’s beneficiary, set to take place this August.
“This is being held off the back of the skydiving event,” said Mr Campbell. “Every year we hold about two or three sub-events around the skydiving. We will be following this up with a mouse race in August.”
Later this summer Cobh Pirates Rugby Club will also host a fundraiser for Kate Flynn on Saturday, 26 August. This fundraiser will feature a barbeque, bouncy castles and an assortment of children’s entertainment.
Kate Flynn, who turned four earlier this week, suffers from chromosomal deletion and a central breathing issue meaning she also has a tracheostomy and requires 24 hour ventilation. Her parents Lisa and Mark have fundraised for years for the means to improve Kate’s quality of life, a big part of which is a refurbishment to the family home to give Kate a more spacious bedroom with an accessible bathroom.
Breaking the Silence Cobh is a suicide prevention group which works to create a suicide safer community by connecting persons at risk of suicide with life preserving resources. The voluntary group was set up in 2007 and continually offers suicide prevention training and provides both safeTALK and ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) Training Programmes free of charge.
