Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice, David Stanton has welcomed the allocation of funding to improved piers at two locations in East Cork. Funding is being allocated to Cork County Council from the Deparmtent of the Marine for works at Lusitania Pier in Cobh Town and Brown Island Pier in Ballintubber outside Midleton.
“Today’s funding announcement of a total of €82,500 for development of piers is very good news for the East Cork Community and should bring tangible benefits to people working in and reliant on marine industries. The Lusitania Pier will receive €37,500 for slipway repairs and refurbishment and Brown Island pier will receive €45,500 to repair the existing pier which is damaged.
“This funding announcement of €82,500 for the Lusitania and Brown Island piers comes in addition to the €112,500 for Youghal Pontoon and €56,250 for Lower Aghada Pier in April this year. This is a total of €251,250 for the development of East Cork Harbours and facilities under the Local Authority Programme under the Department of the Marine. A total of €3.8 million has been provided to date this year under the 2017 Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme which allows Department co-funding up to 75% the total cost of approved projects with the local authority providing the balance.
