A Vintage Car Run in aid of the Castlemartyr Family Carers and Disability Support Group will take place on Sunday 21 October.
Vintage and classic car enthusiast, Eamon Long, is organising the event, which starts at the Hunted Hog at 11:30am and will return to the hostelry following a tour around West Waterford which includes Mount Melleray Abbey.
All funds raised from the Vintage Car Run will go towards the group’s Christmas dinner and social outings throughout the year.
Group Chairperson, Liz Maddox, said they were humbled by the offer of financial support. “Nobody has ever offered to raise money for us. Everything we do is self-funded by our members, who have limited finances.” Even with the kind support of Centra Castlemartyr and SECAD who provide a meeting space free of charge, the Castlemartyr Family Carers and Disability Support Group struggle to provide a proper social outlet. Members of the Group meet in the old school house on the Mogeely road every first Thursday of the month, are not just a support for carers and those with a disability. Ms Maddox said that, without the group many would feel isolated and trapped in their own homes. The Castlemartyr Family Carers and Disability Support group help empower and enable people to make their own choices and live their own lives.
Home baking, refreshments, live entertainment and a monster raffle will be provided at the Hunted Hog on return to the venue.
Entry fee is €20. If you would like to take part in this Run, you can register on the day from 11.30am.
