There will be extra sparkle in Carrigtwohill this December as Cobh Municipality have given the green light to replace some of the festive lighting in the Town. The Community Council received a windfall of €4,000 from the Borough Town Development Fund on Monday to fill a shortfall for additional lighting.
Tidy Towns Cobh, in conjunction with Cobh Tourism, were provided with €6,500 to enhance the Five Foot Way and create signage to encourage liner passengers to explore Cobh.
Pollinator friendly plants will also replace those currently along the route.
Hendrick Verwey, Cobh Tidy Towns, said the joint initiative is designed to encourage tourists to stay longer and explore Cobh more.
Mr Verwey said there is a growing trend around the world for exploring local areas and uncovering their unique stories.
He said “the majority of tours involving liner passengers are of a half day duration. We want them to explore the town rather than return to their cabins.”
