On Friday night last local artist, Utta Hogan, presented a cheque to Youghal RNLI for €1,015, raised by the sale of their 2017 Calendars which featured 12 of Utta's paintings, all worked in oils.
Speaking with The East Cork Journal, Utta told how she came to Ireland twenty years ago from Hamburg, a seaside Port in Germany. "I grew up near the water and am passionate about the sea" she said. "I have great admiration for all the Rescue Crews who risk their lives to save others, and I'm delighted to be able to help by raising funds for Youghal RNLI".
Accepting the cheque Pat O'Keeffe, Chairman, on behalf of the members and crew of RNLI thanked her sincerely for her generosity and said "This is a fantastic amount raised for us but, more than that, the 2017 Calendar is one which showcases Utta's extraordinary talents, and will be treasured by many over the years".
He also extended thanks to the people of Youghal, East Cork and West Waterford for their ongoing support "which", he said, "is very much appreciated by all".
Coincidentally, just two days later, the Youghal Lifeboat rescue vessel was launched and saved the life of a young man, suffering from hypothermia, who was clinging to his surf board having been in the sea outside of Redbarn for forty five minutes with no way of getting back to shore himself.
Well done to the crew.
