CRY104fm held their annual spin-a-thon over Friday, 17 and Saturday, 18 August. Over 12 teams entered the competition in a battle to win €500 for their chosen club or charity.
Youghal Cycling Club entered a team of three made up of Tom Hickey, Séamus Landers and Michael Roche. They did trojan work and covered a staggering 32.1km!! When signing up, Youghal Cycling Club very generously decided if they won any prize to split it between their own junior section of the club and with the local Parents Together in Autism. Committee members of the Parents Together in Autism were blown away by this extremely altruistic move by Youghal Cycling Club. Alison Lawlor (Chairperson), said “Thank you to the team from the cycling club for their fantastic support which we really appreciate. What a lovely surprise for us. On behalf of the children in the group, I'd like to say congratulations and thanks again to Tom, Séamus and Michael for their extraordinary donation. Our group membership is growing monthly and every penny will be put to good use.”
Hot on the heels of Youghal Cycling Club were Aura Leisure Centre with 31.2km and 3rd place went to the The Bru Columbanus team with 30.6km. Running alongside the spin-a-thon was a 50 hour radiothon and bucket collection. Funds raised will be tallied over the coming week.
Speaking with The East Cork Journal Darragh Parker (CRY Station Manager) said, “We were delighted with the number of teams who entered and the excitement rallied from their supporters. We’d like to thank all those who took part in both the spin-a-thon and radiothon and to all those who donated. The public are always great to support us and this weekend’s events were no exception.”
Broadcasting to Youghal and many surrounding areas, CRY104fm is wonderful local station packed with music, interviews, news and much more, keeping old and young alike entertained.
Congratulations to all involved on a great weekend of fun and fundraising!
