On Saturday, 28 March a Coffee Morning was held in at Youghal’s GAA Clubhouse in aid of Kieran O’Connor – a fellow GAA member from Aghada. Kieran’s story of his continuing battle against cancer, and that of this family as they battle alongside him, has resonated deeply amongst not only the GAA community but the all the community of East Cork and beyond.

Saturday morning’s Coffee and Cake sale raised a fantastic €1,800 and will be donated to the fund set up by Friends of Kieran, to help in some way to support the family as they face the coming months. The GoFundMe page, as of writing this article, stands at an awe-inspiring €314,252 surpassing the goal of €250,000 which was achieved in just 4 days. As with the camaraderie and respect ever present amongst the GAA community, donation buckets are present in clubhouses all over the county in an effort to contribute to the cause.

Youghal’s upcoming Rivalries Renewed: Cork v Waterford charity game on 5 May in aid of Youghal Cancer Support House will also be making a further donation to the Kieran O’Connor fund through the sale of commemorative programmes from the big day. Tickets for the match, which will once again put Team Captains Dan Shanahan and Joe Deane toe to toe on the pitch with the might of members of their former team mates of the 00’s behind them, are now on sale at Eventbrite.
