An initiative by Cumann na Daoine and hosted by Artist, Marcella Reardon, the six week Heritage Through Art Course is currently being held on Friday mornings from 11am until 1pm. The free course will continue each Friday until November 3rd next and, speaking with The East Cork Journal Marcella told how it takes in the heritage and history of the town of Youghal using a lively contemporary visual outlook. "The first day involved an 'Open your Eyes' walk", she said, "and this forms the basis of the course. Students follow their own interests and are led through a creative process using collage, photography and mixed media techniques.
The students were very impressed with the course telling The East Cork Journal "It opens my eyes to my own surroundings" and "I really appreciate our natural amenities now".
Marcella, who previously worked on the well known 'Last Days, the end of carpets at Youghal' confirmed that, with the success of this course, it is hoped to run it again and anybody who might be interested should contact Cumann na Daoine as soon as possible, as it is expected that large numbers will be applying for it. The course is free of charge.
