The East Cork Municipal District Public Participation Network (PPN) held their first meeting on Tuesday last, 7 November in Cumann na Daoine, Youghal, with kind permission. Welcomed by East Cork Municipal District Reps on Cork County PPN Secretariat, Liam McCarthy Youghal and Christine Lane Ballycotton, the attending groups included Youghal Community Forum, Youghal4All, Youghal Celebrates History, CRY 104fm, Comhaltas, Comhaltas, Craobh Eochaille, Ballycotton Defibrillator Group, Cork Bee Keepers, FON Ballymacoda CastlemartyrFamily Carers, Castlemartyr Disability Support, Liz Maddox, Chair, CCC Older Peoples Council.
A presentation on the PPN was expertly delivered by Christine Lane, which was followed by a comprehensive report from Liam McCarthy on the progress of the PPN nationwide.
A lively discussion then followed, with the meeting concentrating on strengthening interaction with the PPN to help make it a strong entity in East Cork, for the benefit of all groups in the area. Suggestions were noted for the attention of the East Cork Municipal District Local Authority staff and elected members.
Christine Lane told The East Cork Journal that the PPNs , composed of community and voluntary groups, social inclusion, and environmental groups who are active in their communities, have now been established nationally in each County and City, through collaboration between Local Authorities and local volunteer led Organisations.
The newly launched East Cork Municipal District PPN currently has 92 groups registered, and would be delighted to welcome new groups to become part of the network.
