Youghal Library hosted an Open Day in their premises on Tuesday, 27 November to celebrate the launch of National Library Week which runs from 26 November to 2 December. The theme of the event for this year around the country is “Libraries Transforming Lives”. Youghal Library is certainly a fantastic facility in the town, providing a meeting place for local community groups such as Youghal Lace Group, Creative Writing Group, Children's Book Club, Youth Reach, Youghal Tourism and many more.
Speaking with The East Cork Journal, James Deane (Branch Manager) said, “It was an outstanding event and really showcased the library. It was also our first day with new self-service kiosk. Following an ICT (Information Communication Technology) Infrastructure Grant for digital services and facilities from the Department of Rural Affairs and Community Development of €7.8M for libraries nationwide, some new equipment was purchased for the Youghal branch. We now have a 65” PC interactive table, a touch screen PC which can be wall mounted for exhibits, as well as new Wi-Fi connectivity which will improve services for our members.”
MC on the day was Youghal Librarian Marion O’Halloran, and the event was officially launched by Deputy Mayor of Cork County, Youghal ’s own Cllr. Mary Linehan Foley. Other special guests on the day included well known author and broadcaster, Youghal man, Colm Keane and his wife, former newscaster with RTE, Una O’Hagan.
