Youghal Musical Society Presents “Calamity Jane”

By Claire O’Donoghue

As they celebrate their 25th Anniversary this year, Youghal Musical Society is still going strong and ready to lift the roof with their latest Show “Calamity Jane”. This amateur production is directed by John Daly with Musical Director Dominic Finn. It is an adaptation of the stage play by Charles K. Freeman following the Warner Bros. Musical Western by James O’Hanlon in 1953 starring Doris Day and Howard Keel. The film won an Academy award for Original Song “Secret Love”, and the story is loosely based on the story of frontier woman, Martha Jane Cannary and her association with Wild Bill Hickok. The show takes place each night at 8pm sharp in the Mall Arts Centre from Sunday, May 6 until Friday, May 11. The cast includes:
Therese Keane as Calamity Jane
Frank Moloney as Wild Bill Hancock,
Paul Sweetnam as the Lieutenant
Valerie Hunt as Katie Brown
Geraldine Hearty as Adelaide Adams
It is sure to be as successful and entertaining as the many wonderful productions presented and performed by Youghal Musical Society over the past 25 years.
Tickets for adults are €15, Children U12 are €12 (U12’s must be accompanied by an adult) and are available from Cree’s Card Shop.
