Youghal lady and well-loved Muinteoir to many of its residents, Aingeal Uí Dhomhnaill was presented with an award in recognition of her efforts over the years in promoting the Irish language and culture. On the 12 May, at the end of their inaugural meeting in Killarney, Dháil na Mumhan President, Donnchadh Ó Aodha acknowledged Aingeal’s many achievements in her work-from the foundation of An Naíonra Pre-school to being also one of the founders of Gaelscoil Choráin in Youghal, the first primary Gaelscoil in Co.Cork in 1983. She has also dedicated years of work to Conradh na Gaeilge and is today still involved as Treasurer. Cathaoirleach of Youhal’s Conradh na Gaeilge, Liam O Laochdha, speaking with the East Cork Journal said “As well as being Laoch na Mumhan, Aingeal has been, and always will be, Laoch na hEochaille.”
The first registered pupil of Scoil Choráin Tracy Kenneally, has fond memories of her time at An Naíonra under the tutelage of Aingeal and said “her decades of service to the community do her credit and the recognition was long overdue. Comhghairdeas agus go raibh maith agat Aingeal for instilling in me, and others, a life-long love of the Irish language.”
