The Queens.

This year’s Inch Festival commenced with the crowning of the Festival Queen this past Saturday, 9 September.
The Killeagh/Inch community hall in Killeagh saw a large attendance as 11 young ladies, all sponsored by and representing a variety of clubs, pubs and businesses in the East Cork area, contested for the title of Festival Queen.
“The Village of Inch was in real festival spirit last Saturday night,” said John Geaney, one of the organisers of this year’s festival, “when 11 lovely queens took to the stage to determine the lady to be crowned Festival Queen for 2017. The extended and refurbished Community Centre looked in spectacular condition to host the event. The people came in their numbers to fill the Community Centre to capacity and witness for themselves the many talents of each and every queen. The judges were faced with an unenviable task to name the Queen of the Festival as all the queens were winners on the night.”

Of the 11 young ladies in the running to be crowned Festival Queen, it was Sorcha Keniry who was awarded the title of Festival Queen 2017. Ms Keniry, representing Split Ends Hair Salon, Midleton, was also awarded a voucher for Maryborough Hotel and Spa, as well as spending money.
Ms Keniry’s fellow contestants on the evening were Melissa Joyce, Ciara O’Brien, Emily Aherne, Cait Delaney, Claire Keniry, Becky Fennessy, Chloe Delany, Maria Sicignano, Aisling Dineen and Niamh O’Brien.
Tommy Collins acted as compère for the evening, with music provided by the Youghal Comhaltas Group.
The Inch Festival is organised by the Inch Community Centre Committee and the proceeds raised will go towards its Building and Refurbishment Programme. This year’s festival has now commenced in earnest and will run through to Sunday, 1 October, raising money towards the Inch Building Fund.
The next events will be a Bingo night on Wednesday, 13 September, again at 8.15pm at the community centre, and a Juvenile Table Quiz taking place from 7.30pm two days later on Friday, 15 September.
The following weekend, Saturday, 16 September, will see a Music Night held by Longs Bar in Mount Uniacke, with a Treasure Hunt beginning at the community centre at 11am on Sunday, 24 September.
On Thursday, 28 September Powers Bar in Mount Uniacke will host an Adult Table Quiz night from 8.30pm, with the final confirmed event being a Bazaar at the community centre from 2pm on Sunday, 1 October.
